Transcripts, minutes, reports, correspondence, memoranda, photographs and audio tapes documenting the activities of the Commission from its birth in 1970/71. The administrative files include the following series: Correspondence; Commission Meetings; Task Forces; Related Agencies/Organizations; Subject Files; and Unesco Files. As NCLIS is a federal agency, the National Archives and Records Administration is responsible for documenting its activities; consequently, these series are weak and incomplete. Materials from the White House Conference on Libraries and Information Services (1979) files are divided into seven series: Outgoing Correspondence Chronological File; Outgoing Correspondence Alphabetical File; the State Pre-Conference Files; Advisory Committee Files; Delegate Certification Files; Subject Files; and the Clippings File. These series document the planning, development, and realization of the first White House Conference and are more detailed and complete than the first subgroup. The third subgroup, White House Conference on Libraries and Information Services (1991), consists of one small fragmentary series, the Advisory Committee Files, which contains pre-conference planning material. Significant correspondents include: Richard Akeroyd, WHCLIS (1979); Charles W. Benton, NCLIS Chair (1978-1981); Marilyn Gell (Mason), WHCLIS (1979); Mary Alice Hedge Reszetar, WHCLIS (1979); and Alphonse F. Trezza, Executive Director of NCLIS (1974-1980). Related collection of interest: the papers of Margaret Warden, a commissioner of NCLIS (1979-1984), and member of the Advisory Committee for the White House Conference on Library and Information Services (1975-1979).
